Drumming Workshop
Every Thursday, 7pm - 9pm
@ The Music Cafe, New Park Street (off Braunstone Gate),
Leicester. LE3 5NH
£5 per session
Whether you are a seasoned drummer with your own instrument, or a complete beginner, come and join us, meet some interresting people and experience the joy that drumming together brings.
Our workshop is designed to offer a friendly environment in which participants are given the opportunity to explore their creativity and realize their hidden talents. We aim to create a relaxed atmosphere where people can discover the joys of African Drumming and celebrate diversity.
Drumming is not only fun, but also relives stress, energises and helps to develop self-confidence. Drumming improves co-ordination, listening skills observational skills and concentration. The main focus of the workshop is to help participants to develop rhythm and harmony through the use of traditional African drum patterns and popular contemporary rhythms from around the world, such as Rumba, Merengue, Salsa, Kilapanda, Semba, Samba, Kizomba, Zouk, Calypso, Jazz, Funk and Reggae, all of which have their origins in African drumming and percussion.
In the workshop we use a selection of djembe drums supplemented by different drumming and percussion instruments such as congas, bongos, birimbau(hungo), kissange (mbira) Cowbells, shakers, claves, reko reko, water drum and udo (Bottle drum).
